Captain Rob Smith

Captain Rob Smith joined the British Army as a Trumpet player in 2005 and after completing his initial training, Capt Smith was posted to the Band of the Adjutant General’s Corps in Winchester. 

In 2010, Capt Smith started the Bandmasters’ Course at Kneller Hall and after graduating, he was assigned to work at Headquarters Corps of Army Music and spent 8 months working on the future restructuring plan for Army Music.

In July 2013, Capt Smith took up the post as Bandmaster to The Band of The Parachute Regiment and this was quickly followed by an assignment as Officer Commanding the Band of The Army Air Corps on their reformation as a Specialist Contemporary Band in April 2014.

In 2017, Capt Smith took up post as Bandmaster to the Band of the Scots Guards and was commissioned the following year, appointed as Director of Music to the Royal Artillery Band. In 2019, he took over command of the British Army Band Tidworth.

In 2021, Capt Smith was assigned back to the Bands of the Household Division as its Adjutant, before assuming his current appointment as the Director of Music to the Band of the Grenadier Guards.
