Captain Peter Brydon enlisted into The Regimental Band of The Green Howards, based in Catterick North Yorkshire, as a cornet player in 1990. In 1994 he attended The Royal Military School of Music (RMSM) Kneller Hall on the one-year Pupil Course, to re-train as a bassoon player. Following this he was assigned to The King’s Division Waterloo Band, and subsequently, to the Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band.
In 2007 he attended the three-year Bandmaster Course at RMSM. He graduated in 2010 with a First Class Bachelor of Music (with Honours) degree. On completion of the course, he was assigned as Warrant Officer Class One Bandmaster (BM) to The Band and Bugles of The Rifles, based in Winchester. In 2013, he was assigned into the Training Design Warrant Officer role at RMSM and left the Army in 2014 after 24 years’ service.
After a period of civilian employment, he re-joined the Army in 2018 as BM of the Band of the King’s Division. In 2019 he was assigned into the newly created role of Staff Bandmaster, working directly to the Principal Director of Music (Army). He was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Army Music as Senior Instructor Initial Trade Training at RMSM in February 2020. In June 2022 he was assigned into the role of Director of Music and Officer Commanding the Band of the Irish Guards.
