Staff Sergeant (BM) David Hamilton joined the Royal Corps of Army Music in September 2020 as the first Lateral Entry recruit into the British Army.

SSgt Hamilton completed basic training at ATR Grantham before embarking on the two-year British Army Bandmaster Course at the Royal Military School of Music as part of the Sian Edwards Class – the last Bandmaster class to have studied at Kneller Hall. He graduated in August 2022, winning the Commandant’s Prize, the Kneller Wing Prize and the Fred Mortimer Statuette. 

Following a year-long post as Assistant Bandmaster to the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in Edinburgh, SSgt Hamilton was assigned as Bandmaster to the Band of the Prince of Wales in August 2023.
